In XLayers, when referring to the external code (or external coding), the program is referring to a code the user can choose independently for referring to an entity (e.g. Reinsurer, Broker etc.) or type of Agreement (e.g. Treaty, Facultative, Reinsurance plan etc.).
It is called « external » because it can often be used as a communication coding with other systems that share personal data or information (e.g. Datawarehouse, Portfolio systems, General Accounting Applications).
