GDPR

The General Data Protection Regulation, Official Regulation (EU) n. 2016/679 which is better known in the abbreviated form in English as RGPD, is a European Union regulation on the processing of personal data and privacy, adopted on April 27th, 2016 and subsequently published in the Official Journal of the European Union on May 4th, 2016. The Regulation entered into force on May 24th of the same year and became operational beginning on May 25th, 2018.
With this Regulation, the European Commission aims to strengthen the protection of personal data of citizens of the European Union (EU) and EU residents, both within and outside EU borders, by returning the control of personal data to its citizens, simplifying the regulatory context concerning international affairs, unifying and standardizing privacy legislation within the EU.
The Regulation also addresses the issues revolving around the exportation of personal data outside the EU and obliges all data controllers (also those with a registered office outside the EU) who process data of EU residents to observe and fulfill the expected obligations.
Since its entry into force, the GDPR has replaced the contents of the Data Protection Directive (Directive 95/46 / EC) and in Italy, has repealed the articles from the Code for the Protection of Personal Data (Legislative Decree no. 196/2003) which are incompatible.
